#SparkUpTheParks: Breathing life back into Ballito’s parks
The Re/Max Dolphin Realtors charity committee are calling on the greater community to support the campaign in order to get the first project completed.
A year ago Re/Max Dolphin Realtors embarked on the ambitious journey to revamp and bring the local parks back to life.
Together with the Dolphin Coast community they have raised enough money to get the first project underway – the upgrade of Hilary Park, including the skate bowl.
The campaign was launched in May last year.
“The community have been incredible and we were lucky enough to receive extremely generous equipment and material donations from local businesses. We did however, budget for one last big fundraiser which has obviously been made impossible with Covid-19,” said Re/Max’s Simon Peacock.
The Re/Max Dolphin charity committee felt it was important to update the community now that parks are open to the public.
The #SparkUpTheParks campaign raised R132 827 last year while the Backabuddy campaign raised an additional R15 871.01.
The fundraising committee decided on a phased approach, starting with Ballito’s skateboard park on Dolphin Crescent, which is a classic part of the local backdrop, having existed for around 30 years.
Phase 1 of the upgrade will see the revamp of the original skate bowl structure with one small extension bowl.
A play area for children complete with a jungle gym is included.
“R200 000 is required for the full project so an additional R60 000 is needed to finish phase 1, which includes the extension of the skate park as well as the revamp planned for Townsend park play area.
“Phase 2 will require a headline sponsor which could see the Hilary Drive skate park evolve into an Olympic standard skate park, attracting even more visitors to our already diverse town,” said Simon.
