Tongaat welfare society says that together, we can do more

Despite Covid-19, efforts to help those who need it most continue to grow.

For Mandela Day Tongaat Child and Family Welfare Society and Food for Life Coastal joined forces to impact the Tongaat community.

They distributed freshly prepared meals, soaps, face masks, clothes and party packs to the children of Lungelani and Polani informal settlements.

“Two hundred masks and soaps, as well as 2 000 meals were distributed to the children in Polani, Lungelani, Gwala’s Farm, Umbhayi, Belvedere and Flamingo Heights,” said the welfare society’s Jo Moodley.

Moodley said they were inspired by the words of Nelson Mandela, who said:

“What counts in life is not the mere fact we have lived; it is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the lives we lead.”

“These words of our beloved Madiba encapsulate the efforts of community activism in making a difference in the lives of the often marginalised and disadvantaged.”

To date, Tongaat Child Welfare Society have distributed some 5 000 food hampers while Food for Life have donated 20 000 fresh meals.

Both organisations extend their thanks and appreciation to those who have supported Covid-19 relief operations.
