The Ballito arm of the Move One Million movement launched its first awareness campaign last Saturday, calling on the Dolphin Coast to join the peaceful protest across the country and abroad next month.

Since its launch in mid-July, the movement has attracted more than 480 000 members to its Facebook group, calling on South Africans to speak out against corruption.

Spearheaded by the same man who founded South Africa’s #ImStaying movement, Jarette Petzer of Cape Town, the group has also garnered support from as far afield as Canada, Cyprus and Holland with people sharing their pictures “taking a stand”.

Ballito field representative Cal Snow said the peaceful marches will be held at 10.30am on September 5, aiming to get one million people to take part.

“This movement is about ordinary citizens uniting together for change,” said Snow.

The group states: “The time is now for us to unite from all corners of the globe and show solidarity against a bent and corrupt system that can no longer be allowed to have its way with the future of our people and the future leaders that follow. We are now left with only two options – either we run and cower, or make a stand, together, as sons and daughters of South Africa.”

Similar to the #ImStaying movement, the group encourages uniting across all religions, genders and races to rise against a common evil – corruption.

“The time for sitting on the fence is over. Our country needs us, and only the people can set us free,” reads the Facebook page.

“The Facebook group provides Telegram and WhatsApp links to join the groups where announcements will be made,” said Snow.
