Foxhill floral enthusiast claims top spot at virtual flower show
In what may be the only flower show of the year, artists in Thompson's class were challenged to create an arrangement with the brief of "Channeling my inner Frida Kahlo".
Foxhill native and floral enthusiast Sharneen Thompson placed top of her class in the recent SAFU (South African Flower Union) virtual flower show titled “A Focus on Interpretation.”
Entrants were asked to submit photographs of their arrangements given the restrictions on gathering during lockdown.
In what may be the only flower show of the year, artists in Thompson’s class were challenged to create an arrangement with the brief of “Channeling my inner Frida Kahlo”.
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many artworks inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico.
Entries came in from locations as far afield as Pakistan and Ireland, making for a difficult competition.
Sharneen, a founding member of the Umhlali & District Garden & Flower Club, submitted a beautiful piece that integrated fabrics and beads and was ultimately judged to be the winner edging out Suna Malherbe and Mare de Kock.
The Garden Club is presently in recess, but normally meets on the first Wednesday of each month.
