Nine lives or not, this cat lives to meow again… every time

They say a cat has 9 lives, and a cat in Ballito is certainly trying to prove the maxim.

13 years ago Mrs B, as the cat was named, was adopted by Vera Seller, a Ballito resident well known for her love of animals.

Vera’s friend, Charmaine, had been travelling back to the North Coast from Bloemfontein and discovered the cat when she opened the bonnet on stopping at a garage in Ballito.

The tenacious cat had spent almost 700kms under the bonnet on top of the engine block and appeared fierce but with no notable injuries.

After a visit to the vet, Vera was willing to take up the challenge of adoption and she has been taking care of the cat ever since.

“She arrived wild and unwilling to be touched and nothing has really changed,” laughed Seller.

Mrs B comes into the house to eat but spends most of her time outside, often choosing to sleep in the rain as opposed to her bed inside.

“I suppose it just reminds her of what she used to be, maybe it’s instinct kicking in,” said Seller.

Another of Mrs B’s lives went when a giant leguan made its way into the house.

“We could hear the leguan for months in the ceiling, and when he finally appeared, Mrs. B did not hesitate and jumped at the opportunity for a fight.”

A whip of the leguan’s tail made a wide gash across the cat’s stomach, but she recovered quickly and now prefers to spend her time chasing the monkeys away.

“I have my dog Fudgy-Foo to cuddle, so I don’t mind that Mrs B keeps to herself. I love her nonetheless.”
