Eskom takes the country into stage 2 loadshedding

Eskom has asked the public to reduce their use of electricity urgently.

Last night Eskom announced the start of Stage 2 loadshedding from 6am till 11pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The power utility said it hoped to reduce the need for loadshedding next week by replenishing the depleted emergency generation reserves.

While Eskom ramps up its planned maintenance during the lower demand summer period, breakdowns have put the national power grid under severe strain.

In addition to this, Eskom has taken two generation units at the Kendal Power Station offline in compliance with environmental legislation.

Similarly, four generation units at the Camden Power Station have been taken offline to conserve the integrity of the Ash Dam facility.

Eskom has asked the public to reduce their use of electricity urgently.
