Despite turbulent 2020, Ashton brings home 100% pass rate

Ashton matrics have brought home another 100% pass rate.

The first round of matric results were released on Tuesday to excited students at Ashton International College who wrote the Cambridge International Examinations.

“We are ecstatic about the results overall with exams being set and externally marked, and also the fact that these matric students already have their results, another bonus on the Cambridge curriculum,” said Mrs Jenny van Buuren, Senior College Head. 

“Despite a trying year during a World Pandemic and lockdown where students used online platforms, I have to congratulate my staff and also the students”.

Luke Davis was the top A Level student, achieving three A averages in Chemistry (90%), Computer Science (92%), Mathematics (90%) and one A in Physics (89%) with a total of 8 distinctions as his matric exemption.

The top AS Level student was Jennavive de Agrela who scored A symbols in Accounting (94%), Business (91%) and English (87%), with an average of 86.75%.

The average score of all students in Chemistry was above 90%, which means they all achieved over 90% in their A Level exams.

AS Level subject averages were Accounting (86%), Business Studies (86%), History (82%) and Physics (83%).

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) results were also released on January 19 and brought with them the best results in school’s history.

Seventeen of the 30 students who sat the exams returned a full house of 6 distinctions.

The top IGCSE student was Danielle Boshoff who achieved an average of 96.6% with Accounting (97%), English First Language (92%), Afrikaans Second Language (99%), Mathematics (96%), Biology  lose second with seven distinctions above 90%.

A total of 177 IGCSE examinations were written and 144 A symbols were achieved.

“The average of every subject written returned a distinction, with special mention of Accounting 91,4%, Computer Science 92,3%, Science 90%,” said Van Buuren, “We eagerly await our IEB results which we expect on 19 February.”
