Obituary: Margaret Penelope Rencken née Atkinson: 30.6.1942-14.4.2021

Penny Rencken, who was born in Eshowe to Norman and Peggy Atkinson, passed away on April 14.

She lived most of her adult life in Zinkwazi Beach.

Penny was a member of the Women’s Institute for 56 years, while also serving as the social secretary for 20 years.

Penny enjoyed getting involved in all kinds of charity work which would help better the lives of those less fortunate than herself.

She loved her many adopted animals and spent hours in her beautiful garden.

A wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend to many.

Penny married Richard Rencken in May of 1964, and together the couple had 3 children – Paul, Bruce and Hayley, 3 children-in-law and 9 grandchildren, all of whom she adored.

Richard and Penny were married for nearly 57 years.

“We will miss her gentle, caring nature and unconditional love. Mom loved with her whole heart and was devoted to her family and friends. We were not ready to let her go, but God needed another angel around His throne.”

Hayley van Straaten has written this poem as a special tribute:

Mom…
I wasn’t ready to let you go,
It was way too soon, as we all know,
You still had so much you wanted to do,
There was so much I wanted to share with you.
Who will I phone five times a day,
Who’ll listen to all I have to say.
How do you get over the loss of a mother,
Pain and emptiness, like no other.
But I will be strong, I’ll look after dad,
And cherish all the good memories we had.
I’ll do our photo books with love,
As you watch me, smiling from above.
You loved your family beyond measure,
Everything about you I’ll always treasure.
Goodbye my special, kind, patient, caring, loving, beautiful mom, I’ll love you and miss you forever.
