Teamwork is needed to crack crime, says Mandeni’s new station commander

The new Mandeni Saps station commander, Lieutenant colonel Mduduzi Shobede believes that it is only by working together that crime can be eliminated.

Assaults, rape, housebreaking, carjacking and business robberies are the most problematic crimes in Mandeni.

“These crimes can be minimised by engaging with the community and engaging with external stakeholders such as Business Against Crime, Mandeni public safety and security companies,” said Shobede, who has until recently been the operational support commander at KwaDukuza Saps.

Shobede joined the police as a student at Hammanskraal in 1991 and a year later he was transferred to Eshowe as a client service centre official.

“I worked there until 2000 and I came to Mandeni Saps as a visible policing official and crime information officer and in 2009 I went to Eshowe district office working at the management information centre,” said Shobede.

He joined Chatsworth Saps in 2015 as operational support commander.

Being a resident of Mandeni himself, he feels he needs to work extra hard to prevent and combat crime that may threaten the safety and security of the community.

Besides being a police officer, Shobede is a happily married man and father of 5 children.

“My job keeps me busy most of the time and whenever I get a chance to be at home, I spend it with my family. I make sure that my family comes first as they are my strength. They support me in my fight against crime and they always motivate me to face any challenges,” said the die-hard Kaizer Chiefs supporter.

He said there was nothing he hated as much as crime against women, children and the elderly.

“We, as husbands, fathers, brothers and sons must protect and fight this pandemic. This should not only be a focus during 16 days of activism but throughout the year.”
