Business partners with KDM to bring 10MVA electrical supply to northern suburbs of KwaDukuza
The new infrastructure will service the surrounding communities of Lindelani, Doesburg, Mbozamo, Shakaville, Blythedale, Princes Grant, Morningside, Kepersol Street, New Guelderland, Zamani and Stanger Manor.
R22.5 million in electricity infrastructure investment could spell the beginning of the end for recurrent power failures in the northern suburbs of KwaDukuza.
On Thursday, September 23, a new transformer and switchroom were unveiled, adding another 10MVA (million volt-amps) to the supply.
The project, which took 13 months, was a dual partnership between Edison Power and the KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM).
It was financed in a 50/50 split between Vivian Reddy’s Edison Group – which developed the KwaDukuza Mall – and KDM.
“It’s a momentous day to see, particularly with the frequent power outages that we have seen in KwaDukuza,” said mayor Dolly Govender.
The new infrastructure will service the surrounding communities of Lindelani, Doesburg, Mbozamo, Shakaville, Blythedale, Princes Grant, Morningside, Kepersol Street, New Guelderland, Zamani and Stanger Manor.
With the completion of the handover, KDM will be responsible for the running and maintenance of the infrastructure.
“It gives us an upper hand going forward with further development in KwaDukuza. This new infrastructure caters for more power than is currently needed which gives us something to look forward to,” said KDM spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize.
