KwaZulu-Natal continues to see a decline in Covid-19 cases [iLembe vaccination sites]

As of Monday afternoon at 5pm, some 189 528 people had been given a dose of the vaccine within a 24-hour period, bringing the country’s total administered vaccines to just over 19.2 million.

This, as KwaZulu-Natal on October 11 recorded 114 new cases, with the province ranking second in terms of laboratory confirmed cases, with 2 Covid-related deaths on the same day.

According to the provincial health department, the 7-day moving average has continued to decline, going down from 346 to 163 cases per day since the start of October.

It was noted that a remarkable decline continues to be observed over weekends, with the number of daily hospitalisations, both public and private, also declining.

Since the advent of Covid-19 in the province, iLembe District has reported a total of 31 552 cases of Covid-19, 754 Covid-related deaths and 26 079 recoveries.

eThekwini District remains the highest with 231 728 reported cases to date, 5 215 Covid-related deaths and 223 726 recoveries.

Just over 3-million vaccines were recorded to have been administered within a 24-hour period as at 5pm on October 11.

Within the same period, 139 899 people had been fully vaccinated countrywide, with KZN recording 16 250 people as fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, in KwaDukuza, the national health department’s live Covid-19 Data Counting system has recorded only 1 new case of Covid-19 which came from ward 28, with 9 805 cases since the outbreak first began in 2020.

The age group with the highest Covid-19 cases reported included ages 31 to 40, with women being mostly affected.
