Just a ploy to divert voters, Mashaba says at Salt Rock
With elections fast approaching next month, the breakfast was part of the party's campaign in KwaDukuza, one of 6 municipalities or metros that the party will contest in this election cycle.
ActionSA is far from the small party that it has been recently characterised as, said Herman Mashaba on Monday.
Mashaba denounced the Democratic Alliance (DA)’s controversial radio campaign attacking ActionSA at a breakfast at Linc Campus in Salt Rock.
Speaking to about 90 people Mashaba said – despite the DA’s claims – polling placed ActionSA ahead of the DA and African National Congress (ANC).
“We are polling number 1 in Johannesburg. If the DA was not worried about us then they would not be running these ads,” he said.
With elections fast approaching next month, the breakfast was part of the party’s campaign in KwaDukuza, one of 6 municipalities or metros that the party will contest in this election cycle.
The others are the City of Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Ethekwini Metro and Newcastle.
He further elaborated on his reasons for leaving the DA – Mashaba was previously the Mayor of Johannesburg while a member of the party – indicating that they had lost their way as the official opposition.

“The DA is prepared to work with the ANC in certain coalitions.
“The ANC I grew up with and voted for twice is now a criminal enterprise, it is not a political party.
“ActionSA will never sit in a room with the ANC while I am in power.”
Mashaba spoke about the need for South Africa to stop delineating itself along racial lines, which he said has been exacerbated by the ANC.
“I believe South Africa can be fixed, but the window is fast closing. The African National Congress (ANC) is a virus like Covid-19, it needs 2 jabs before it will go away,” he said, referring to the upcoming local elections and national elections in 2024.
Dr. Makhosi Khoza, a former ANC MP who is running for Ethekwini mayorship, echoed the sentiment in her address. “Whenever we are divided, evil thrives. ActionSA is not about us, it’s about all of us,” she said.
Finally, ActionSA mayoral candidate for KwaDukuza, Nel Sewraj spoke on his plans for the municipality.
“We want to confront the nemesis of power outages. With our municipality’s corrupt directors and leaders, there is not even a motion tabled about renewing our ageing electrical infrastructure. Ultimately, we want to curb losses, whether electrical, water or revenue.”
