Temporary repairs to restore water supply to Sundown and Hillside Flats
At Driefontein, a contractor has been appointed to refurbish existing infrastructure to the value of R6.9-million.
Water supply disruptions resulting from flood damage continue to plague some parts of the North Coast, specifically the ward 16 areas Sundown and Hillside Flats.
While some residents in the area reported having water at times, others have been left without a drop.
iLembe District Municipality said temporary emergency repairs have been made, but these caused further hiccups.
“The plumbing team installed a temporary booster line to increase pressure to the area, but the excessive pressure exposed weaknesses in the pipeline which caused a few breaks,” iLembe district municipality spokesperson Zee Nqala said.
Mayor Thobani Shandu apologised for the interruption.
Meanwhile, at Driefontein, a contractor has been appointed to refurbish existing infrastructure to the value of R6.9-million.
The project will see 25 standpipes, 3km of 20-200mm diameter piping and valves, a 200kl elevated tank, a booster pump station and control chamber constructed within six months.
Ward councillor Nkululeko Sithole welcomed the project and thanked iLembe District Municipality for fulfilling a promise to get the project going.
