Covid-19 regulations scrapped, including mandatory mask-wearing and limits on gatherings
Health Minister Joe Phaahla gazetted the updated regulations last night, making the changes immediate.
Most of the remaining regulations to curb the spread of Covid-19 have officially been dropped.
This after South African health minister, Joe Phaahla, gazetted the updated rules last night, making all changes immediate.
Specifically, sections 16A, 16B and 16C of the Regulations Relating to the Surveillance and the Control of Notifiable Medical Conditions of the National Health Act have been repealed.
Headlining the changes is that masks are no longer mandatory, where previously they had to be worn indoors and on public transport.
The limits on the number of people at gatherings, which have impacted much of the hospitality and entertainment industry, have also been removed, placing no obligations on people gathering either indoors or out.
Travellers entering the country no longer need a PCR Covid-19 test or proof of vaccination.
Minister Phaahla cited the declining number of cases, hospitalisations and infection rates as the main reason behind his decision.
Just more than 1 000 cases were identified yesterday, while the official Covid-19 related death toll reached 101 697.
