Entertainment bonanza at the Ballito Pro
Held over two days next week, some of the country's best artists in a wide range of genres will enthrall crowds at this year's new venue at Salmon Bay.
Alongside the surfing action at the Ballito Pro pres. by O’Neill is a fantastic festival line-up of almost everything out of the water.
As major entertainment venues across the country reopen, so too do the options that the Ballito Pro has become famous for.
This year signals the first time that the free concert series returns since 2019, ensuring the best of local music will be back with a bang.
Kicking things off on Thursday, July 7, “amapiano” artist Daliwonga will headline an exciting bill.
His melodic offering will be backed up by the Afro-Pop sensation Q-Twins, while the final slot will be filled by the winner of the Battle of the DJs event.
On Friday, July 8, DJ Kyle Cassim will rock the beach concert with his groovy synths and basslines that made him one of the most beloved performers in Durban.
Desmond and the Tutus, Majozi, The Black Lapels and Freddy L will also perform on the night.
Entry to both concerts is free, with the performances running from 5-11pm.
The second annual eKasi Experience will give locals and tourists an opportunity of experiencing ‘township tourism’.
On July 5 and 6, this takes the form of the Battle of the DJs competitions, where KwaDukuza’s best record spinners will get a chance for big stage glory.
The top 10 will perform at Gidela Lounge and Shisanyama in Ntshawini on Tuesday, after which the top three battle follows on Wednesday at Prince Lounge in KwaDukuza.
This will decide who makes it to the free concert on Thursday, making it a whirlwind three days for the eventual winner.
At the Ballito Village Vibes festival, which also returns this year, you will find a number of live performances and exciting activations.
The Tequila Twins, Winston Smile, René Tshiakanyi and Spare Parts will perform at CJ Cogan Park between Mozambik and Concha.
On Wednesday, July 6, there is also an iLembe Surf Riders movie night fundraiser, with all funds going towards helping developing surfers in our region.
At Good Vibes and Conchilla, there are also a host of after-dark parties giving everyone an opportunity to unwind after a long day of surfing action.
For those more geared towards early morning events, look out for sunrise yoga and pilates, beach walks, fashion shows, Jive with Jen dances, as well as face painting, sand castle building and a kiddies corner for the youngsters.
This will all be supported by a fully kitted shopping area at Willard Beach where all manner of retail delights will be on offer.
Surfing officially starts on Wednesday with the O’Neill SS Smth Shapes Junior Pro, followed by the Sea Harvest SSA/iLembe development surf tag team event and the O’Neill KZN High School League finals.
The main event runs from July 3-10, with the exciting return of the Ballito Pro Skate Jam set for Friday, July 1.
