TradePort poised for more major investments

With this year's Indaba theme 'Re-igniting economic growth through manufacturing', Dube TradePort was able to showcase its track record of over a decade and its ability to develop infrastructure and drive sustainable investment.

Dube TradePort’s acting chief operations officer Andile Mnguni says the facility’s location, infrastructure and proven track record of resilience during adversity have positively positioned the trade hub for massive investment from the manufacturing sector.

Mnguni said there was renewed interest in Dube TradePort as a destination at last week’s Manufacturing Indaba 2022 in Johannesburg, as industry players observed that operators located within the TradePort precinct had come through last year’s looting and recent flood disasters unscathed.

“The Indaba provided Dube TradePort with a unique opportunity to build business connections with manufacturers and industrial property developers, as well as showcase the expansion of its light industrial precinct.

“Dube TradeZone 2, a 38ha fully serviced precinct open to general manufacturers, is already projected to attract some R5-billion in private investment over the next five years,” Mnguni said.

“The continued disruptions in supply chains initially brought on by the pandemic and now exasperated by the rising costs of logistics, are making manufacturers think hard about their location in relation to a seaport where they receive most of their raw materials.

“This presents an enormous opportunity for Dube TradePort as we begin to talk to manufacturers in other centres in South Africa and elsewhere in the world. Manufacturers look for secure locations which affords them business continuity which cushions the impact of disasters.
