DJ Blackzin spins his way into the fast lane

The sky is the limit for Siyabonga Nzuza, better know as DJ Blackzin, who has won the Ballito Pro’s Battle of the DJs back to back.

“It was an amazing feeling to win the competition for the second time. This motivates me to keep working hard.

“It has helped me considerably because, I now have my own equipment and I have shared the stage with icons such as DJ Black Coffee. I am also very proud that I am among the top 10 DJs around KwaDukuza.”

Although he is a versatile DJ, he prefers playing Afro-house music.

The Tshelenkosi Secondary School matriculant was born in Umlazi township, but his family later relocated to KwaDukuza.

He has been working the decks for the past six years. It all started when he used to listen to top DJs playing live mixed tapes over the radio every Friday.

Going forward, he wants to create his own brand and release an album. He is planning to release his first song next year.

“My advice is that if you have talent, prioritise education because it is the key to everything. Then you can start doing music and while doing so, make sure you excel.”

He thanked his family for always being supportive, although his mother was a bit hesitant about the career he chose. He says she now understands that music is what makes him happy.

He also thanked the DJs who played a vital role in developing his career, people such as DJ Man K, DJ Tecknicks, DJ MeloBee and the late DJ Sea-Level.
