First upgrade of Salt Rock bus stop shelters completed
The first project outside the Salt Rock Country Club was officially opened on Monday.
Salt Rock bus shelters have been left in shambles for years, but this is about to change.
Ward 22 councillor Privi Makhan is on a mission, working with local businesses to refurbish the shelters.
Makhan said the aim was to refurbish three bus shelters in her ward and expressed her appreciation for the goodwill and generous support of companies that have come on board.
She now appeals to the community to assist with the refurbishment of the remaining two.
Matthew Chaplin of Jemstruct said after hearing about the project from Makhan, he found others in the construction industry who agreed to come on board.
“We managed to raise R55 000 from the following companies – Raw Fencing, Zap Signs, Jemstruct, Mica Build, Evco Steel, Prodec Paints, Seacon Roofing, Limeworks, Salt Rock Coffee, North Coast Toilet Hire and Talisman Tool Hire.
“We have stripped and carted away the existing roof sheets and replaced them with new aluminium sheets. We also replaced sections of the steel structure and sanded down and painted all steel work. We further installed a new bench seat with a polished concrete top and cleaned up the curbside and surrounding area,” said Chaplin.
KwaDukuza deputy mayor Thulani Ntuli attended the opening and thanked the business people for supporting Makhan.
“We really appreciate this and hope to see more work done by the private sector working together with ward councillors,” Ntuli said.
