New ward 30 CPF takes strong stand on drugs

The community policing forum will work hand-in-hand with local security and authorities to keep the town safe.

The new ward 30 community policing forum (CPF) will make its first priority tackling the drug peddling and underage drinking problems that have recently escalated in Ballito Village.

At its first meeting last week, the forum undertook to acquire a drug testing kit to aid in gathering primary evidence.

“This will enable us to test those caught dealing or buying drugs on the spot and hand them over to the police. We hope this will accelerate the investigation process of drug cases because taking drugs to a lab takes time and that delays the process of prosecuting the drug dealers,” said CPF secretary and ward 30 councillor Jack Abrahams.

He said the function of the CPF was to liaise with all security providers and the Ballito Neighborhood Watch to coordinate efforts to keep Ballito a safe town at all times.

“Furthermore, the CPF will collect case numbers and follow up on progress of these with Saps. The CPF will also take part in special operations with the police focusing on high crime areas in neighbouring suburbs and towns.”

He said the CPF was looking for members willing to give a few hours of their time a month to help keep the town safe.

“No experience is necessary. The CPF will provide workshops to train all members in the areas they plan to be active,” said Abrahams.
