Knorrox backs Mam Sindi’s philanthropic work
With limited resources she established the KuneDube Foundation which brings relief to destitute communities.
Being unemployed has not diminished Stanger resident Sindisiwe Kunene’s (58) passion for philanthropic work in her community.
Affectionately known as Mam Sindi, she established the non-profit KuneDube Foundation in 2021 to address unemployment, poverty and illness during the Covid pandemic.
With limited resources, Kunene began reaching out to local stores for food donations to bring relief for the destitute.
She even sold underwear and perfumes at taxi ranks to support her foundation’s initiatives.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, Kunene and her team provide nutritious meals to up to 200 people, including school children during holidays.
A larger facility to prepare her meals has become imperative.
In stepped sponsor Knorrox, who last week handed over a mobile kitchen container, a gas cylinder and products to help relieve the pressure.
Her garden was also refurbished with new vegetable seedlings planted by enthusiastic Unilever employees.
“We will continue to offer monthly assistance,” said Knorrox senior brand manager Thobeka Mkhize-Goba.
“Mam Sindi’s remarkable community work is truly admirable and we feel privileged to be associated with her impactful work.”
The company also brought along a nutritionist to teach the community about the importance of proper nutrition.
Kunene said her foundation aspired to extend its reach beyond Stanger, the current focus area, and provide support to other communities..
