Ballito Junction car show rolls out the classics
Collectors from across the province and country make appearances to showcase their collections.
Ballito Junction’s annual classic car show pulled out all the stops on Sunday as it celebrated its third year.
With more than 200 cars on display, the line-up featured everything from classic MGs to Ferraris, not to mention an exquisite line-up of American muscle cars.
The event was held in conjunction with Ballito Auto Body, with collectors from across the province and country making appearances to showcase their collections.
Standout appearances included a 1970 365 GT Ferrari, which Glen Anil resident Daryl Mann spent almost R400 000 restoring.
Mann said he had searched the whole country for the model, only to discover it was closer to home than he could have imagined – only some 800m in fact – owned by a near neighbour.
The car is worth about R6.42-million.
A cute standout was a 1962 Mark 1 Mini, which has been in the care of Shivraam Maharaj for 14 years. He undertook restoration of the car five years ago, spending R60 000.
The Southwood resident said the Mini still boasts its original interior.
Another great standout was Keeran Eshwarlall’s 1992 Chevrolet Camaro V6 RS.
What makes the car special is that it is one of perhaps only three 25th-anniversary edition models in the country.
