Shaka’s Head mourns community champion Lucky Ndlovu

Lucky Ndlovu passed away from heart failure last week and is survived by his wife Nokulunga and children, Aphiwe (17) and Amahle (13).

The community of Shaka’s Head mourns the loss of Lucky Ndlovu, a constant force for positivity in the area.

Ndlovu (42) owned the popular Vuvu Fit Gym and was well-known for his passion for community development and sport, particularly martial arts.

He passed away from heart failure last week and is survived by his wife Nokulunga and children, Aphiwe (17) and Amahle (13).

A high-school dropout, Ndlovu initially worked as a gardener in Westbrook before becoming a bouncer in Ballito, during which time he discovered a love for Taekwondo and Hapkido.

He developed quickly in the martial arts world, competing in four world championships between 2010 and 2013 where he won three golds and three bronze medals in the hyper-weight division.

Beyond his martial arts accomplishments, Ndlovu was also a certified instructor and personal trainer.

He became an ardent community supporter after opening his gym, which became a gathering place for people from diverse backgrounds.

Ndlovu’s passion for service saw him uplifting youth across the province but with a particular focus on those around him in Shaka’s Head.

In doing so, he became the coach and chairman of the Shaka’s Head Super Strikers soccer team and was an integral member of the Twelve Apostles Church.

Ndlovu was also active in promoting education and opened his home to run a full-time soup kitchen to ensure no children went hungry.

Nokulunga expressed the profound impact he had on all those whose lives he touched through charitable efforts and mentorship over the years, while thanking the community for their support.

“While I am shattered, I would like to thank everyone who has been with us since the news broke, particularly to Siyanda Resources for offering a helping hand.

“I would not have been able to afford private healthcare without them and may never have found out what was wrong with him,” she said.

Ndlovu’s funeral is scheduled to take place in the Mbongolwane Area of Eshowe on Sunday, and a local memorial service will be held at the eBandla Hotel on Thursday at 10am.
