Traffic detour at Umdloti circle

This detour is expected to remain in place until completion of the storm water culvert at the end of April or mid-May.

A new traffic detour has been introduced at the Umdloti circle because of the major storm water upgrade in progress.

With the next phase of construction involving digging up the road above the circle at the taxi drop-off zone, the entire circle has to be circumvented.

The traffic circle in Umdloti has been taken out of play and a temporary T-junction near Perna Perna now handles all incoming and outgoing traffic.

Vehicles entering Umdloti are now directed to the left of the circle towards North Beach Road, bypassing the circle completely.

A temporary stop sign and detour signs have been erected at the intersection of North Beach Road and Jabu Ncgobo Drive near Perna Perna to form an angled T-junction.

With the Umdloti circle temporarily closed, motorists leaving the town from the south now need to drive counterflow past the circle and take a sharp left at a new T-junction just before Perna Perna.

A sharp right turn would take motorists to South Beach Road and all its amenities. While access to North Beach Road remains unaffected, leaving Umdloti from the north now requires a right turn at the T-junction.

Leaving Umdloti from the south side now requires driving past the garage and the circle, making a sharp left turn at the temporary T-junction just before Perna Perna.

The new temporary T-junction near Perna Perna will handle all traffic in and out of Umdloti until construction above the Umdloti circle has been completed.

Beware of loose stones and gravel on this corner, especially on a motorcycle.

This detour is expected to remain in place until completion of the storm water culvert at the end of April or mid-May.
