Ballito job readiness programme sees 40% employment success for local youth

The four-week work readiness programme covers three main areas - emotional intelligence, understanding work ethics and professionalism.

A Work Smart Job Readiness programme offered by the Linc Foundation has helped 40% of the local youth who attended find employment.

The non-profit organisation based in Salt Rock equips individuals unable to further their tertiary education.

The four-week work readiness programme accommodates 330 students per year, covering three main areas – emotional intelligence, understanding work ethics and professionalism.

This helps prepare students to market themselves in the workplace. These skills enable them to become more competent and address key challenges they are often faced with in a work environment.

“We seek to equip school leavers and young unemployed adults with the knowledge and entry-level skills which are important characteristics needed to succeed in the work and entrepreneurial spaces,” said programme facilitator, Mpumi Matikwane.

The programme is aimed at people unable to further their tertiary education and wish to become more employable.

Registered students are required to attend face-to-face classes at Linc Church in Salt Rock for four weeks where ongoing assessments are conducted.

Upon completion, a certificate of attendance is issued. A minimum amount of R250 is required upfront to reserve a study space.

Measuring the success of the programme, now in its eighth year, Matikwane said many students had found job placements.

“Among others, employment was obtained at Simbithi’s Fig Tree restaurant, Scoop Ice Cream, Zara’s Café, Yolis Bakery, Superspar Lifestyle, Woolworths, Muze Shop and Mr Price Home.”

There is no age limit to register. Individuals 18 years and older who have a matric certificate can visit the Linc Foundation Facebook page for updates on new programme rollouts.

Alternatively they can contact Matitkwane at 079 794 0501 or visit the Linc Church in Salt Rock.
