Ballito’s Ward 6 councillor Tammy Colley will soon vacate her post after being promoted to the provincial legislature.

First elected to the KwaDukuza council and Ward 6 position in 2016, Colley also currently serves as the caucus leader for the Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaDukuza.

That too is a post that will need to be filled once she is sworn in as one of 11 DA members in the KwaZulu-Natal provincial legislature on Friday.

Both roles will need to be filled through election, the first in a public election open to all residents of Ward 6, and the second as an internal party election within the DA.

The date of the Ward 6 by-election had not been announced at the time of print, but will need to be held within 90 days of the vacancy.

Ward 6 covers the area between Simbithi and Ballito Drives and up to the border of Chaka’s Rock.

In the interim period between Colley’s resignation and a new councillor being elected, the speaker of council, Dolly Govender, will act as pro-tem ward councillor.

Colley said she plans to update the Ward 6 community on further details as soon as possible.
