East Coast Radio DJ ‘J Sbu’ is loving life in Ballito

Known as one half of the popular Stacey and J Sbu show, the family man found his perfect lifestyle on the North Coast.

East Coast Radio host J Sbu is living his best life since impulsively moving to Ballito in December.

At the end of last year, he was forced to find a new home when his landlord sold the apartment he was renting in Tongaat. The father of one upped sticks and headed to Ballito, a town he has aspired to live in since childhood.

“I have only just moved here, but I feel like I am never going to get bored,” he said. “I love the ocean and how green the area is.”

Originally from Mandeni, J Sbu has fond memories of trips to Ballito with his family.

“When I was a kid my parents would bring us here for a relaxing day out,” he said.

The 32-year-old worked his way up from hosting the Early Breakfast Show on weekday mornings to ‘prime time’ airtime on the popular Stacey and J Sbu drive-time show, from 3pm to 6pm, on weekday afternoons.

Despite being a well-known public figure, J Sbu is laid back, which is why Ballito’s relaxed beach culture and resort town feel suits him. However he and his partner, Zinhle, still enjoy nights out.

“I am a shorts and flip-flop kind of guy, so this town is perfect. It’s so chilled,” he said. “Zinhle and I like going to the Market at Lifestyle Centre. There are many places to eat and have a good time. It’s such a vibe. It’s where we to come to let loose.”

When he’s not on the airwaves, emceeing, or behind the decks at an event, he enjoys spending time with his family.

“As I have gotten older, I appreciate my family time more. All my activities must be family-orientated for my son, Zanda (7) and Ballito has that. There’s so much still to do. My weekends are going to be packed.”
