iLembe district municipality warns public against job scam
The municipality does not sell job posts and advertises vacancies through official channels.
The iLembe district municipality has issued a stern warning to residents about a recent rise in fraudulent municipal job offers.
According to municipal manager, Sazi Mbhele, numerous reports have been received about a person or persons misrepresenting themselves as the Mayor’s PA, using the name Thabiso Zungu.
The alleged scammer has been using the cell phone numbers 071 321 6552 and 075 228 9912 to offer fake permanent employment opportunities at a cost.
“iLembe District Municipality jobs are not for sale and the application process is not conducted through cell phone calls or messaging,” said Mbhele.
“Any employment opportunities within the municipality are advertised through official channels, such as local and regional newspapers, as well as the municipality’s website.”
Members of the public who receive such fraudulent offers are encouraged to report them to the police and the municipality’s offices.
Anyone with information about job scams or fraudulent activities can contact the Anti-Fraud and Corruption Hotline at 0800 204 205 or via email at iLembe@tip-offs.com.
To verify legitimate vacancies, residents can visit the official municipality website.
