Body found in Mvoti River after routine patrols

The family of a man reported missing in the river two weeks ago is aware of the recovery and will work with police for identification.

The body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Mvoti River on Wednesday afternoon after first being spotted the previous evening.

Security officers first noticed the body floating downriver during routine patrols, but decided against trying to recover it in low light conditions.

IPSS Search and Rescue teams and KwaDukuza Saps, with Badul Air providing helicopter help, returned to the area yesterday morning and were soon able to spot the man’s remains.

The man’s body was found near the mouth of the Mvoti River.

“The Croc was launched, with two rescuers, who were able to paddle downstream, and recover the body,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick.

“The identity of the body is unknown at this time, having been in the river for some time with crocodiles.”
