Siza Water bursary programme takes on new crop of promising students
The longstanding programme has invested over R2-million into uplifting students from within Siza’s concession area.

Siza Water remains committed to nurturing talent and recognising potential with an investment of R2.2 million in bursary funding.
The bursary programme supports students from the Siza Water concession area who wish to pursue tertiary studies in fields such as accountancy and engineering.
The water and wastewater utility company held its annual bursary breakfast last Thursday, where recent graduate and Siza Water bursary recipient Nkanyezi Mvelase (25) addressed the new bursaryholders. Nkanyezi, a chemical engineering graduate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), shared how receiving his bursary had been a game-changer for him after facing financial setbacks.
“As I step into the next phase of my life, I do so with immense gratitude and a sense of responsibility to give back. I encourage all of you to do the same. One day, we will be the ones sponsoring and mentoring young students, ensuring that the circle of opportunity continues,” he said.
Malwande Mathenjwa (21), a geomatics engineering final-year student at the Durban University of Technology also expressed excitement for her future.
“I am pulling all the stops to achieve great academic results,” she said.
Nkanyezi and Mathenjwa were also both grateful for the valuable work experience they gained with Siza Water during their tertiary holidays.
iLembe District speaker Dolly Shandu commended Siza Water for their community contributions and encouraged the students to stay focused.
“You have been chosen and I urge you to focus on your studies and future. The sky is the limit,” she said.
