Curro Salt Rock netball star reaches incredible 100-cap milestone
Luzanri Buys is the first athlete in any code to reach 100 caps at the school.
A Curro Salt Rock netball trailblazer notched up 100 caps for the school’s 1st team last week.
First team captain fantastic, Luzanri Buys (18), brought up her century milestone in a 31-18 victory against Kingsway High School on May 27. Buys is the school’s first athlete to reach 100 caps in any sports code. The Grade 12 pupil reflected on her achievement during a trophy presentation after her final outdoor game for the school.

“Reaching my 100th cap for Curro means the world to me. It’s not just about the games – it’s about every moment, every lesson, every person who’s been part of my journey,” she said.
The talented defender has represented KwaZulu-Natal in both outdoor and indoor netball from U16 to U19, including a spot in the KZN Ladies’ B team while in Grade 10 in 2023. Later that year, she travelled with the provincial squad to the HSBC Dubai 7s Netball Tournament.

“Wearing the first team dress for the 100th time fills me with pride and gratitude. It reminds me why I started, how far I’ve come, and how much this team and school mean to me. It’s a moment I will carry with me forever.”
Buys has a string of accolades to her name, including Player of the Match in five consecutive games – including the final – at the Gelofte Night Series, where Curro were crowned champions in March. She was also named Best Defensive Player at the Curro Sports Festival last month. In April, she was selected for the KZN Sharks U18 side.
First team head coach, Chené Gissing, praised her star performer.

“It has been a privilege to coach Luzanri and witness her growth – both on and off the court – into the phenomenal young woman she is today,” she said.
“Luzanri leaves behind an incredible legacy. Her netball journey continues to inspire younger athletes at Curro. For two years, she has led the team with pride and dedication, consistently representing the school with honour. Her passion for the game is evident, and her leadership has left a lasting impact. I am incredibly proud of her. Her future is undoubtedly bright, and we wish her all the best.”
