Clothing manufacturer expands Isithebe factory, creating 80 new jobs
Today the company's clients include Hesto Harnesses, Mr Price and Isuzu South Africa.
Argento Trading celebrated the official opening of its expanded Isithebe factory last Thursday, adding 1 000m² of manufacturing space, five new production lines and creating 80 jobs.
The expansion marks another milestone for the clothing manufacturer, which has grown from a small operation with a handful of sewing machines into a business employing about 140 people, most of them women from surrounding rural communities.
Co-owner and CEO Joudalle Govender said the company’s greatest achievement was not the factory itself, but the people behind its success.
“We are not building a company to impress. I’m building a company that will leave a legacy that said, ‘I did right by you’,” she said.

Govender said Argento’s culture is built on respect and teamwork, with a strong focus on skills development and leadership opportunities for employees.
Representing Hesto Harnesses, Argento’s first major client, Deli Mbonambi reflected on the company’s journey from receiving its first purchase order worth just R937 in 2018 to becoming one of Hesto’s preferred suppliers.
“They didn’t expand this factory just because they like the smell of fresh concrete. They expanded because customers keep demanding more of their product. They simply ran out of space to hold the talent,” she said.
Mbonambi said Hesto’s Enterprise Development Programme had supported Argento through mentorship and lean manufacturing principles, while Govender’s passion and the commitment of her workforce had driven the company’s growth.
Mentor John Chandler, CEO of Lean Systems and Projects and former managing director of Hesto Harnesses, said Argento was a powerful example of successful enterprise development, creating sustainable jobs while strengthening local manufacturing.
Today, the company’s clients include Hesto Harnesses, Mr Price and Isuzu South Africa. It has also earned several industry accolades, including Standard Bank’s 2026 SME Client of the Year award, while its business model has been selected as a case study for the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
