What’s On: October events you don’t want to miss

A feast of festivals coming up this weekend.

1 October – Storyslam KZN at Butcher & Wine in Salt Rock Centre. Dinner from 5.30pm, storytelling from 7pm. Five speakers each tell a five minute true story. R100pp in support of the DKS Scholarship Fund. All welcome, to tell a story contact Karen Doveton at 084 900 5444.

– First Thursdays at The Studios with Quiet Storm from 5.30-8.30pm.

1-4 October – Art in the Country, Coastal Edition. The inaugural fair at Collisheen Estate showcases some of SA’s best artists. Tickets R50 at the door, R30 for pensioners and R10 for scholars. Open 9am-8pm from Thursday-Saturday and 9am-4pm on Sunday.

2 October – Catch Tiaan Rivers at The Market from 6-9pm or The Kickstands on Eat Street from 6.30-9.30pm.

3 October – Breakfast at The Studios with Rachel Taljard from 10.30am-12.30pm, ahead of lunch at The Market with Tyler di Dominico from 12.30-3.30pm. Brian Patterson takes over at The Market from 6-9pm, while Steve Graham performs on Eat Street from 6.30-9.30pm.c

-Launch of the Moms and Cubs organisation at Simbithi Country Club from 11am-5pm. Panel discussion on topics of motherhood, parenting and family connection. Tickets R550 from Quicket.

-Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival at Sugar Rush Park from 1-5.30pm. Tasting available from 35 wine stands, with food stalls available. Tickets R350 from Webtickets – includes 20 tokens for wine tasting, allocated based on price of bottle.

4 October – Sly Dunn at The Studios from 10.30am-12.30pm, before Sunday lunch with Darius at The Market from 12.30-3.30pm or Beat Route on Eat Street from 1-4pm.

29-31 October – Christmas Fair With Flair returns to The Manor House. Over 100 stalls with everything from clothing to Christmas trinkets, as well as food, drinks and live music. Tickets R120 from Quicket or at the door.

Regular markets

  • Wednesday: Market 032 from 8am-12.30pm at La Montagne.
  • Thursday and Sunday: Salt Rock Farmers’ Market at Slow Roads Collective. 7am-12pm on Thursday and 9am-1pm on Sunday.
  • First Friday of every month: Market 032 night market, 6-9pm at La Montagne.
  • First and last Saturday of the month: Car boot sale at Ballito Gesinskerk, 7-11am.
  • Saturday, Sunday and selected public holidays: Ballito Farmers Market, 8am-3pm at Lower Oaklands Farm, Umhlali.
