Umhlali athletes excel again and again

Cricket, swimming and tennis stars!

Umhlali Preparatory School has been shining and shimmering in cricket, swimming and tennis, making this first term a great success.

The cricketers have been superb this term with Umhlali fielding 16 cricket teams and having a 85% win ratio playing against the creme de la creme of the Durban North and Durban Central Schools.

The U11A, U11C and U10A teams are all unbeaten with seven boys from the U11A team being selected for the Ilembe U11 cricket team.

Umhlali coach and ex Dolphins player, Saidi Mhlongo, was appointed coach for both the U11 and U13 Ilembe cricket teams and will surely work his magic.

The swimming season has also been hugely successful, with the school winning, for the third year in a row, the North Durban “A” Gala and the North Durban “B” Gala against all the top schools in the Durban North and North Coast area.

On the tennis court, the U13A girls’ team have dominated all the top tennis playing schools in and around the Durban central area with Paige Wise showing herself to be a potential superstar for the future.

Tennis coach, Mitzi Bateman, has inspired renewed enthusiasm in the sport and numbers participating have increased considerably.

With all of these achievements, it is clear that the pupils and the coaches live up to the motto of the school ‘Totis Viribus’ (Strive with all your might).
