The latest addition to the Ashton extracurricular activities this year is Scuba@Ashton, which offers pupils the chance to suit-up, take deep breaths and dive head first into this popular recreational sport.
This makes Ashton one of the few schools in the country to offer pupils access to scuba diving and there has been a keen response from a large number of people active in the school community.
A handful of children from the school enrolled in the club have done some amazing dives earlier this year, at Aliwal Shoal in Umkomaas and more recently at Sodwana Bay, north of St Lucia.
The Scuba@Ashton club is open to the community, with the next PADI Open Water course about to begin with lectures being held at Ashton from July 25 onwards, followed by training in the heated pool.
