Representing KZN at World Robot Olympiad

Liam Goodfellow and Connor Major, under the mentorship of robotics teacher Ingrid Hoffman, have qualified to take part in the open senior category.

A dynamic duo from Curro Mount Richmore will be representing KZN at the national finals of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Gauteng later this month.

Liam Goodfellow and Connor Major, under the mentorship of robotics teacher Ingrid Hoffman, have qualified to take part in the open senior category.

The theme for this year’s event is Smart Cities and their project is an automated battery exchange system for electric vehicles.

The project swaps the flat battery of an electric vehicle with a fully charged battery in a matter of minutes.

The grade 11 pupils did extensive research into this project and the end design consisted of some intense programming to get it to work.

The hard work put in by the students and teacher was commendable as they gave up many weekends and burned the midnight oil fine tuning their project the night before the regional competition.

If all goes well at the national competition, the pupils will represent South Africa at the finals in Gyor, Hungary.
