At any given time Joshua Griffiths and his two older brothers get together to do what they do best – practice music.
This dedication has led to Joshua, who is in grade six at Reddam House Ballito, being chosen to play for the KwaZulu-Natal Youth Orchestra for the 2020 season, an accolade which is normally reserved for children much older than the 12 year old.
The accomplished youngster hails from a musical family.
His father, a French horn player for the Johannesburg Orchestra, moved to South Africa from England to work as a sub – principal horn player for the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra while his mother is a music teacher.

According to Joshua’s mother Julie, there is always someone practicing or playing music in the house.
He was just four when he started playing the trumpet and his musical repertoire extends to the piano, violin and guitar, and at present he is also learning to play the clarinet and has been taking voice lessons from an early age.
“He spends many hours on the Acappella app arranging versions of songs and listening to music. He is so excited about this wonderful opportunity to develop his playing and be part of the youth orchestra,” said Julie.
