Protec Tongaat produced a 100% matric pass, 97% bachelor pass and 99 distinctions.
Protec is a career enrichment programme promoting math, science and technological literacy for pupils in grade 10, 11 and 12.
Of the 37 pupils who wrote their exams, there were 6 distinctions for English, 13 for Maths, 12 for Physics and 25 for Life Orientation.
One of the top achievers, Nhlakanipho Ngidi who attended Fairbreeze Secondary School in Tongaat, thanked Protec for the help they provided through lockdown.
“I was very scared and stressed when lockdown started, but with the help of Protec and friends I was able to pick up my confidence and do well,” said Ngidi who was awarded 7 distinctions.
The 18-year-old will be going to Wits University to study Mechanical Engineering.
Zandiswa Nyuswa from Ndwedwe, who attended Sacred Heart Secondary in Verulam, also bagged 7 distinctions.
Nyuswa said she will be pursuing Astrophysics at Wits University. Both Nyuswa and Ngidi said there was no secret to doing well in school besides working hard.
Tongaat branch manager Marion Takis said the matric class of 2020 would always be remembered for their resilience, determination and sheer hard work.
“Despite the challenges of Covid-19 and missing school for more than 2 months, the 2020 matrics produced the best results in the history of Protec Tongaat.
These results are also a testimony of our dedicated tutors who went above and beyond to support our pupils. We also thank all our sponsors for investing in our pupils,” said Takis.
