Ashton 1st team reaches final in indoor hockey tournament thriller
Ashton boys basketball sweep Crawford La Lucia in clean 3-0 victory.
Ashton International College Ballito’s young sports stars enjoyed another hard-fought set of interschool fixtures last week.
The girls U16A indoor hockey team drew 2-2 with Our Lady of Fatima Dominican Convent School in a close contest at The Legacy Indoor Arena last Thursday.
After falling behind in the first half, Ashton recovered, sharing the spoils against the fast, powerful Durban North opposition.
There was, however, good news for the other Ashton girl’s indoor hockey teams. The U16B team beat Durban Girls High School 1-0 at home on Saturday.
The girl’s U14A team recorded a stunning 16-0 victory over Hillcrest High School, while the U14B team won both their matches last week. The B team beat Thomas More College 3-1 and Reddam House Umhlanga 13-0 at Reddam on Saturday.
Ashton’s 1st Team also played away from home, taking part in the Thomas More College Girls Indoor Summer Series Tournament on Saturday.
The Ballito school had an excellent tournament, beating Danville, Westville, Reddam Umhlanga and Thomas More to reach the final without conceding a goal.
Maris Stella, however, were too good in the final, winning 1-0 in the last match of the tournament in Kloof.
Upcoming fixtures will take place at The Legacy Indoor Arena on Saturday, while the U14B team travel to Hillcrest High School on Wednesday and the U14A team are away to Maris Stella in Durban on Thursday.
Ashton’s boys’ basketball teams were also in action last week, facing Crawford College La Lucia in Ballito on Friday.
It was another good week of results, as Ashton won all three matches. The 1st team were back to winning ways after defeating Crawford on the Cambridge Astro.
The hosts dominated from start to finish, winning 27-15 after an excellent display in front of the home support.
Ashton’s 2nd team edged Crawford La Lucia 10-8 in a tight match, while the U15A side cruised to a comfortable 39-7 victory to make it three wins from three for the North Coast school.
Next week’s fixtures are against Crawford North Coast, where the 1st team and U15As will play on the Cambridge Astro at 2pm, Friday.
