Ashton College lights up Friday nights with ongoing sports series
The 'Friday Night Lights' event has become one of the most anticipated school sports events on the North Coast.
Ashton International College Ballito hosted another successful Friday Night Lights sports extravaganza last Friday.
The school’s Friday night sports event has become one of the highlights on the North Coast’s school sports calendar. Taking place a few times a year, the entire school comes out to support their sports teams in the afternoon, leading up to the main events under lights. Last term’s event was unfortunately washed out.
School “gees”, marching bands and packed embankments add an incredible atmosphere to the evening. This term, St Anne’s Diocesan College, George Campbell School of Technology and Crawford La Lucia travelled to the North Coast to play a series of hockey, netball and rugby matches under lights.
Rugby
The 1st XV took on George Campbell in the main event in front of a packed crowd. With the entire school watching, the boys went to work, winning 55-7 to the delight of the Ballito supporters.
The U15A team kept Campbell scoreless, winning 22-0.
Hockey
The girls won all three games against St Anne’s without conceding. Earlier in the week, the 1sts and U14A both lost to St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls while the U16A managed a superb one-goal win.
The boys went undefeated against Crawford La Lucia and Grantleigh. All three teams kept clean sheets on the night.
Netball
All five netball teams won, with the 1st team beating George Campbell 47-1 on London Court. Earlier in the week, the 1st team edged Lady of Fatima 22-21 in a thrilling display.
The 2nds, U16A, U15A and U14C teams also defeated Fatima.
