Restaurant review – Olive & Oil

Boasting a welcoming atmosphere and modern décor, Olive and Oil is conveniently located at the Ballito Lifestyle Centre. With a wonderful outdoor deck, guests can choose to dine inside or enjoy some great North Coast al fresco dining. During our visit to Olive and Oil, the waiter and staff were very professional, efficient and well versed in the extensive menu. With a huge variety of meal options and something to meet almost everyone’s pallet, we found it quite difficult when deciding what to order. However, our waiter was there to help with recommendations. Starters were top class with each dish having its own unique taste and flavour and all were very well plated. However, the Prawn Tail in Phyllo and Ostrich Carpaccio with Ginger Syrup were by far the winning starters for the night. Some of the main courses did lack a bit of boldness in flavour, however they were all cooked to perfection. The Sole was particularly moist and tender and there were a great selection of side dishes available to accompany our meal. As for the best part of the night – the desserts – the Crème Brulee was stunning and had a very ‘home made’ taste. The crepe that accompanied the Kahlua Avalanche was slightly under cooked but the flavour was amazing and the Death by Chocolate Cake is a chocoholics dream (although it seemed slightly on the dry side on its own, when mixed with the sauce and ice cream it came alive). All in all, this is a very fresh approach to the typical Mediterranean theme restaurant. Their use of fresh ingredients is what will separate them from the rest. A perfect place to go with family and friends!
