The Galley has a stunning view of the promenade as well as the Ballito tidal pool and Salmon Bay. I was impressed with the service as the manager and waiters were very friendly and helpful. The reasonable menu prices are also impressive. The Galley allows you to treat yourself to a meal out, without breaking the bank. Where else can you get a 200g fillet for R65? I also really enjoyed the relaxed, unpretentious feel about The Galley.
My wife had the garlic snails which were nice and simple. I was a little disappointed with my deep-fried calamari starter because I expected a golden brown batter or crumbed coasting, whereas my order looked like they had just been quickly dipped in flour before being deep-fried. In spite of this they were tender and tasty. We then ordered the Sole special which was stunning – pan-fried to perfection with a good colour and very moist.
My main meal was also delicious – growing up on Delia Smith and Floyd I have a deep appreciation for offal – so the Liver and Onion was a must for me. It came with a rich gravy infused with bacon and perfectly cooked vegetables, absolutely mouth watering. I would say they just need to play with the presentation a bit – it looked a bit like a regular home meal dished up by mom.
I must recommend that during the hot days ahead everyone tries one of The Galley’s cocktails. They are cold and divine – be careful though – they are not for sissies. I think with a little tweak here and there this could be a really great restaurant! Considering they have only been open for 10 months they have done a stunning job!
