Restaurant review – Al Fresco’s

Al Fresco’s is one of the newer restaurants in Salt Rock and is run by the Salt Rock Hotel.
It is located on the first floor of the Salt Rock Shopping Centre next to the Salt Rock Hotel. The management team have really put a lot of effort into the décor and atmosphere making it quite unique. The restaurant is Italian-themed with a stunning outside area and views of the sea. The menu is simple and offers some delicious dishes. They were offering some stunning specials on the evening that I visited, including a duo of calamari which was great. The starter that really impressed me was the prawn ravioli – it was superb. Their tomato sauce was just the way I like it – robust without being too acidic. The canneloni was served piping hot and was delicious. I look forward to sampling more of their dishes.
The main course was equally good but there seemed to be a slight communication problem between the kitchen and front of house with my dining partner receiving her main 10 minutes after the rest of the table, but the seafood pasta she ordered was well worth the wait.
The one thing that left me disappointed was the Caprice Salad. The menu stated marinated mozzarella which lead me to believe it would be a soft buffalo mozzarella or a softer cheese but we got melon balled normal pizza mozzarella which is only good for pizza topping. But besides that small problem our meal was really enjoyable. Their pricing is good and it is definitely worth a visit.
