Welcome to my first review of 2013.
It seems that most of the restaurants had a bumper season which is fantastic! As a follow up on the Courier’s ‘Taste of the Dolphin Coast’ feature I reviewed the winner of the sms competition, Impulse by the Sea, in Tinley Manor.
I’m not surprised that they were voted as the favourite restaurant – they have been a local favourite for 22 years!
So I invited an old friend and fellow chef to join me for a meal.
Impulse by the Sea might not have the most modern décor and ambiance but the food is what I go there for – hands down.
Impulse has a relaxed atmosphere and a comfortable deck. We found the service a bit on the slow side, I think they might have been a few hands short, but the food really made up for it. We had the now famous prawn curry, which is arguably the best on the North Coast.
We also indulged in the paneer and a calamari curry. The paneer is fantastic , not too hot but rich in flavour, which is a great partnership.
The calamari was also delicious and was perfectly tender.
Curries at Impulse are not overdone with the heavier spices such as aniseed, cumin and fennel. They have found a good balance without any one of the spices stealing the show.
For dessert we had the mango and saffron ice cream, which is such a refreshing way to end a curry meal.
If you want to experience true and authentic North Coast curry, Impulse by the Sea is a good place to go.
