Restaurant review – The Boathouse

I was last at the Boathouse about two years ago and having been disappointed I was a little apprehensive to visit again, but I can assure you I was pleasantly surprised.
Its amazing how a place can turn around with a change in ownership. We were invited for a Spier wine evening and I really enjoyed myself. There were tasty canapés on arrival and a glass of Spier and we sat by the pool and enjoyed a brief welcome speech.
Then came the food. I started off with the fish cakes, which were really nice, if a bit on the cold side. The sauce accompanying it was outstanding.
For mains I ordered the rack of lamb with Dijon mustard mash. It was served blushing pink which was perfect. It was really good quality lamb and wonderfully tender. I think the mash could have used a bit more mustard, that would have really finished off the dish. All the wines were superb and matched the dishes very well. The constant battle that all hotels face is trying to get the general public to visit their restaurants. I hope someday this will change. The Boathouse is open to the public and they would love you to come and visit. It is a lovely setting for a special occassion.
I’m really looking forward to going back to enjoy a breakfast or lunch by the pool as their prices are excellent and the venue stunning.
This weekend the Easter bunny will be there for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, because even bunnies must eat!
