Restaurant review – Pizza Amore

I am often asked who does the best pizza in town.
It’s a very difficult question to answer because pizza is such a variable commodity and what I think is a fantastic pizza might not be to your taste, so please take this review with a pinch of salt and find what you like. I took a few friends out for lunch to Pizza Amore at The Well opposite Alberlito hospital to find out if they have the pizza I have been looking for.
The venue is stunning and very modern and they have put a lot of thought into it and it must be commended. There is plenty of outside seating and a well stocked bar. The menu has a large selection of pizza’s and pastas explained by our very friendly waiter. We opted for the lunchtime special, any pizza or pasta with a drink for R60 which I thought was really good value for money.
I had a craving for salt so I had the Napoletana which consisted of capers, olives and anchovies. It did the job and I could find no fault with the toppings as they worked splendidly together, without a doubt.
The Mexicana (onions, jalepeno chilli, mince and mixed peppers) had just the right  amount of heat and ample topping. Last but not least we had the restaurant’s name sake Pizza Amore (peppadews, bacon, feta, garlic, olives and sundried tomatoes). I can understand why this is their top seller and it was the winner of the afternoon.
I did notice that all the pizzas were slightly burnt on the edges leaving a little soot on your fingers. I do think this was the exception and not the norm.
Now for the big question is it the best pizza in Ballito? In my opinion no, but it is up there with the best. I know of people who will disagree with me and I encourage that.
