Before I get into my review of Zoete Zonde I would like to express my sadness about the fire at The Waterberry. It really is a big loss to the Dolphin Coast. I have enjoyed many a good meal there. To the staff and owners, I am truly sorry and I hope you manage to rebuild soon, as you will be sorely missed!
Being a confessed chocoholic I was really looking forward to my meal at Zoete Zonde. The venue is really well thought out and beautiful. The staff are extremely friendly and efficient. The menu is full of sweet delights and has a great selection of breakfast, and lunch dishes.
While the selection was great, the menu presentation itself could use some improvement. Flip files are not a good look.
I’m not the biggest fan of coffee in general so I had a decadent caramel milkshake, which was really delicious. For lunch I had the filled baguette. The nice thing about this meal is that you build it yourself so the sky is the limit. I had roast beef with gherkins, red onions, mustard and Gouda.
The best thing about the the sandwich was the bread – absolutely divine. I would have liked to have seen the beef rarer but that’s just me. Besides that it was fantastic. My friend also had a baguette but with roast chicken and a peri peri mayo. It was also very nice though it needed just a bit more heat. Now to my favourite part, the sweets. I had to have the Brussels waffles as you don’t find those too often. You may be asking what the difference is between a normal and a Brussels waffle? It pretty much comes down to the the size and depth of the squares. A Brussels waffle generally has bigger and deeper squares. The waffles are made from scratch and made to order and are wonderfully light and fluffy with a good crunch. We also indulged in the Nutella pancakes, which were extremely delicious.
Do yourself a favour and add on the extra chocolate sauce, its well worth it! They also have a selection of home-made desserts on offer. Ingrid is really passionate about what she does so pop in and enjoy!
