Restaurant review – Simply Asia

Over the past two years the Dolphin Coast has had a sudden influx of Asian style restaurants.
Most have come and gone or changed hands but I think that Simply Asia at The Junction will be around for a while. This franchise has done really well in the Cape and The Junction store is the first KZN branch, with a Gateway branch opening in the next couple of months.
One thing I enjoy about Simply Asia is the consistency in their main meals. They are always the same, and with authentic Thai chefs in the kitchen you really get a taste of the orient.
We had sushi for a starter which was very good. The fish was fresh and prices are very competitive. For my main I had the 265, the Ba-mee Ped Lon. I like the way you can order by number as it saves you the trouble of trying to pronounce the Thai name. Basically it was duck with a peanut sauce and noodles, a really fantastic dish. The duck was tender and works so well with the peanut sauce. I will be back for this dish! The desserts were disappointing though. I ordered the sticky rice with coconut custard. It was a stiff baked custard rather than the creamy risotto style dish I was hoping for. But that was not my major problem. The centre of mine was still frozen, which did detract from an excellent meal. But they did replace it and were very friendly and helpful and I found the service very good, which is essential for a happy dining experience.
I do think the venue could use a bit more branding to separate it from Mama G’s, as from the outside they almost blend together as one restaurant.
Overall, I know I will definitely be back for more.
