When the storm clouds roll in there is nothing as satisfying as the heady spices from a steaming bowl of curry and roti.
This is the ultimate comfort food.
So with the weather being so miserable this weekend you can only imagine where I found myself on Sunday afternoon.
The curry craving brought me to the door of  Café Rumanah at the Ballito Bay Mall. Quite a few other people clearly had the same idea as they were really busy.
This is a strictly Halaal sit down and takeaway restaurant. The first thing I noticed was all the signage advertising their specials and they have quite a few to choose from, at really good prices.
I chose a lamb ¼ bunnie and a bean roti.
I’m always nervous when I order Indian food, as I am a bit of a ninny when it comes to really hot food. So I’m quite selective when ordering. I was relieved to discover that the food at Café Rumanah has a fantastic balance of heat and flavour. It was hot enough to keep the rain and wind at bay without making me dread the burning after effects…
The lamb was extremely tender and full of wonderful spices. I was happily surprised to find it a little different to your typical Durban curry. The bean roti was also very tasty and so reasonably priced.
The staff are very friendly and even though they were busy, there was still an attention to detail which I appreciate. The venue however needs some attention maintenance wise. I also think that their current location is not ideal, but considering that they have been around for three and a half years they must be doing something right.
