The problem with eating healthy is finding a quick and convenient option when life gets hectic.
We have a few healthy eating options in Ballito, so last week I went to investigate Kauai at the Ballito Lifestyle Centre. I have eaten at Kauai elsewhere, but never before at our local franchise.
I must say I like the outside area they have set up, it really is a lovely place to enjoy your meal. The menu has so many options to choose from that it was quite easy to find something to suit my mood. The lady that helped us was still training but there was a manager helping her through the process, which I do think is essential. I have had a few bad experiences with trainees left to their own devices. But thankfully this was not one of them.
I chose the Kahuna steak sandwich and my friend had the Magma wrap. The magma wrap is a lovely combination of mozzarella, cheddar, rice, beans, tomato, sweet chilli sauce, fresh salsa and spring onion, made with either chicken or veg strips. The Kahuna is a winning combination of grilled marinated steak, honey and mustard basting, rosa tomato, avo spread, lettuce and yoghurt dressing.
The food was very fresh, the amount of fillings were more than ample and the combinations worked well. What really impressed me was how quickly the food come to the table. It couldn’t have been more that 10 minutes. Job well done guys!
Now you simply cannot visit Kauai without sampling one of their delicious smoothies. So we had a peanut butter bomb and a mango bang. Kauai are famed for their juices and I can see why.
The peanut butter bomb wasn’t too sweet and had a smooth plain yoghurt after-taste. The mango bomb was equally delectable and so refreshing.
There are still a few items on the menu that I would like to taste, like the Thai veg wrap and ostrich kofta. I would really recommend taking your time and going through the menu as they do have a lot to offer.
Interesting to note:
Open 07:30 till 19:00 seven days a week
No smoking
They are running a Duo special
(Combo deal on a wrap and smoothie)
They do platters for outside catering
All food is Halaal, fresh and healthy

Liquor of the week
Chocoholic Pinotage: I love how wine makers are trying to infuse new flavours into their wines. This wine is a great example of developing a delicious chocolate hint in this stunning wine. It’s not overpowering but has a very nice balance. With the heat we have been having lately I would recommend chilling the bottle in the fridge for an hour. The idea of drinking room temperature wine when its 30+ degrees outside doesn’t appeal to me. Available at Tops @ Lifestyle for R69.
