On The Road – 22 May 2015

Remember the Dolphin Coast Striders' annual Chairman's breakfast.

The Sports Zone opening fun run took place on Saturday morning from the Ballito Junction shopping centre.

The run was a great success and enjoyed by everyone.

Like many other Saturday morning runs, we pounded the pavements of Ballito while trading jokes and stories from the week.

However, the end of this week’s run was far more impressive than usual.

The Formula 1 Bluff Meats Running Club (these are real deal, elite athletes) were there to congratulate us at the finish.

I was delighted to be met by such prestigious lean athletes.

However, I tend to think they weren’t congratulating me on my time but maybe my ability to enjoy a fun run and talk the whole way!

Thanks Dave and the team from Sport Zone for making this fun run special and hopefully this will become an annual event.

Well done to all who took part in the Starling Plumbers Race in Mount Edgecome.

Special congratulations to Jenny Scott who placed first in her age category.

The annual Chairman’s Breakfast run for all Comrades runners will take place on Saturday, May 23 at 7am from the club.

Afterwards all runners will enjoy a cooked breakfast and families are welcome.

Barry Holland, DCS Chairman, will be talking through the route of the up run and what to expect on the day.

We will have seconds at five places on the Comrades route. If you plan to leave any clearly marked bottles please bring them to the chairman’s run.

Don’t forget Braai night, sponsored by Mamma G’s will be next Wednesday, May 27, after the Time Trial.

There will be live entertainment and fantastic lucky draw prizes, so bring your meat, salads etc and come and enjoy the evening with us.

Comrades fast approaches and nerves are starting to show.

The sacrifices and training will all be worth it as you head out on May 31 to conquer the greatest ultra marathon in the world.

I recently watched one of those really inspiring Comrades videos and was reminded that a personal best may not only be measured in time but also in endurance and determination.

You carry these traits not only through this race, but with you forever.

After the run members will be entertained to refreshments, cool drinks, other beverages and a motivational talk and tips on how to manage the race.

All Comrades runners and walkers are requested to attend and other club members are also welcome.
